Asus has officially launched the ROG Phone 9 Pro. The opinions and analysis here are our own; specs are cited from Asus's official ROG product page (see sources below).
Official facts: the ROG Phone 9 Pro packs a Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16–24GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage; the display is a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 185Hz refresh rate and LTPO; the back features an AniMe Vision mini-LED dot display (showing animations and notifications); the battery is 5,800mAh paired with the GameCool 9 cooling system; protection reaches IP68, and it ships with Android 15.
Our take: the ROG Phone 9 Pro is a gaming-first extreme — a 185Hz LTPO panel, GameCool 9 cooling and up to 24GB of RAM are configurations only players who genuinely care about stable frame rates and thermals under sustained heavy load will use; the AniMe Vision mini-LED rear display is a playful, high-identity signature, and the 5,800mAh battery holds up to heavy use. The honest trade-offs: gaming phones like this are usually thick, heavy and flamboyant, so everyday one-hand and pocket friendliness trail normal flagships; the screen is FHD+ rather than QHD+ (a deliberate trade for higher refresh and efficiency); and while the accessory ecosystem (cooler clip, shoulder-trigger grips) is strong, it costs extra. It's best for hardcore mobile gamers and ROG ecosystem fans — those who just want a good everyday flagship will find a normal flagship more balanced.
An honest note: the hero image here is Asus's official w260 thumbnail and is low-resolution (a limit of the size the official image link provides); pricing, memory/storage options and colors follow Asus's regional sites and channels (this model was announced 2024-11-19).
Pros
- A 185Hz LTPO panel and GameCool 9 cooling for stable frame rates in heavy gaming
- An AniMe Vision mini-LED rear display — high identity and playfulness
- Up to 24GB+1TB and a 5,800mAh battery handle heavy use with ease
Cons
- A thick, heavy, flamboyant gaming phone — weaker everyday portability
- The screen is FHD+ rather than QHD+ (trading for refresh and efficiency)
- The gaming accessory ecosystem is strong but costs extra
